Description

The Monterey 298 Sport Cruiser is a twin-engine express built for comfortable weekending, with a deep-V hull, a full cabin, and a wide cockpit set up for entertaining. This one is powered by twin MerCruiser 350 Magnum sterndrives on Bravo Three twin counter-rotating drives, the configuration that gives a boat this size confident handling and easy low-speed maneuvering around the dock.

It is well-equipped and largely complete, but it needs work. The boat is being offered as a project: it wants a thorough cleaning and detail, the gelcoat has oxidized, and the upholstery and carpet show their age. The seller is motivated and open to offers.

Why This Boat

For a buyer who isn't afraid of a cleanup, there is a lot of boat here for the money. The 298 carries an enclosed head with a shower, a galley with a refrigerator, electric stovetop, and microwave, and a cockpit wet bar with its own sink and refrigerator. Cruising gear is already aboard — radar arch, trim tabs, bow anchor davit, marine air conditioning, 30-amp shore power, a swim platform with boarding ladder, and a Garmin GPS at the helm. The bones are good; what it needs is sweat equity rather than major systems.

The twin 350 Magnum / Bravo Three drivetrain is a proven setup that buyers shopping cruisers in this range know and trust. Priced and positioned as a project, this is a chance to put a capable 30-foot cruiser back into service for well under the cost of a turnkey example.

Condition & Next Steps

This boat is sold as a project that needs TLC. It is well-equipped but needs a major cleaning and detail throughout. The exterior gelcoat shows oxidation, the cockpit upholstery shows UV wear and some seam separation, and the cabin carpet is soiled. We recommend a buyer inspect and sea-trial the boat and verify all onboard systems before purchase. The seller is motivated and open to offers.
